Fox/ Dog Brooch

 fox brooch

Materials

4mm crochet hook

Dc yarn in black, orange and white

Yarn needle to sew ends in

For this pattern I use British dc stitch, increases (2 dc into 1 dc from previous row) and decreases (2 dc tog)

Foundation chain – chain 1, ch 1 to turn

Row 1 – dc into ch 1, ch 1 to turn

Row 2- 2dc into second stitch from hook, dc into ch 1, 1 dc to turn

Row 3-  1 dc into second stitch from hook, 2dc into next stitch, dc into turning chain (4 dc), ch 1 to turn

Row 4- 1 dc into second ch from hook, next 2 dc and turning ch, ch 1 to turn

Row 5 – repeat row 4

The nose should be taking shape and look like this

 fox 1

At the end of row 5 you need to start building up the face shape, so chain 4 like this, ch 1 and turn

fox 2

Row 6- dc into second chain from hook and next 3 stitches, then slip stitch along to the end of row 5, including the turning chain, then ch 4 to continue the face shape outwards, ch 1 and turn-

fox 3

Row 7- dc into second stitch  from hook, dc into next 7 s so across to end of the nose (this might be tricky as it will mean you dc into sl stitches which are quite tight), then sl st along to end of the row, including turning ch, ch 1 to turn.

Row 8- dc into second stitch from hook, and every stitch along the row (the first 4 may be tricky again as they are into slip stitches). You should have 12 dc (including the turning ch). Ch 1 to turn.

Row 9- dc into second chain from hook and every stitch along row (12 dc) ch 1 to turn

fox 4

Row 10- dc in second stitch from hook, dc 2 tog into next 2 dc, dc into stitches 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, dc 2 tog into stitches 10 & 11, dc into 12 (the turning ch) ch 1 to turn

Row 11- dc into second stitch from hook and every stitch to end (10 stitches) ch 1 to end

Row 12- dc in second stitch from hook, dc 2 tog, dc into next 3 stitches, dc 2 tog, dc into turning chain, ch to turn.

Row 13- dc in second stitch from hook, dc into every stitch across, ch 1 to turn

fox 5

Next we need to add the ears

Row 14 – dc into second stitch from hook and next 2 stitches, ch 1 to turn

Row 15- dc into second stitch from hook and next 2 stitches, ch 1 to turn

Row 16- dc into second stitch from hook, dc 2 tog, ch 1 to turn

Row 17, dc 2 tog, ch 1 to turn

Ch 1 and sl st down side of ear back to centre of head, sl to into next 2 stitches, dc into last 3 stitches along head, ch 1 to turn

Row 15- dc into second stitch from hook and next 2 stitches, ch 1 to turn

Row 16- dc into second stitch from hook, dc 2 tog, ch 1 to turn

Row 17, dc 2 tog, ch 1 to turn

Sl st down ear to centre, fasten off.

 Next add the white cheeks.

Join white to the bottom of left cheek, dc along to top of the nose, ch 1 to turn

 fox 7

Dc back up to top of cheek, ch 1 turn

Dc tog, then dc into remaining stitches, sl st into last st

Dc along and around bottom of nose up to top of cheek and repeat as for first cheek.

Add facial features using embroidery thread.

Add a felt back, stuffing and brooch back.
